I am currently working on…AJAX/REST!

I am engaged in revamping the CrashPlan web application architecture to Ajax/REST. I had posted at one point that the Flex/Flash phase would pass and so it has.

We have chosen to develop for off the shelf browser capabilities and are very pleased with the simplicity and capability of standardized HTML/CSS plus REST services.

By utilizing jQuery (thanks Matt Christianson!), we are able to create applications with ZERO UI logic on the backend.

In other words, all UI logic is encapsulated in standard HTML/Javascript. Business logic, data transfer is handled strictly over REST interfaces.

Life is better.

I was working on…SWT (again)!

Round two of DiscFlow is finishing up and we have succeeded in our goal of making the application behave ‘more mac-like’. It looks like we’ll still be shipping an SWT carbon implementation with Snow Leopard support due in 4-6 months.

Other Projects

  • Rimage – Code 42 has grown a great partnership with Rimage and we’re excited to be part of their Mac development efforts.
  • LogLogic – Code 42 has a long history with LogLogic and they selected us to do their next generation real-time log viewing component. This was a fun project as we got to use the new Flex Socket API. We also got to push the Flex runtime to the max as we had to handle 2500+ messages/second.
  • CrashPlan – Most recently I added Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Google Contacts APIs into the CrashPlan social invite engine. Other contributions include developing the secured peer 2 peer messaging layer, NAT Traversal over TCP/IP, clustering support for CrashPlan PRO Server, and various web 2.0 doo-dads.
  • Carol – We designed and developed a Flex framework for integrating into traditional web analytics services for seamless data tracking.
  • Jumpnode – Lead development team for Jumpnode, a monitoring and IT management service platform. Very fun work - check out the website for details

More About Me

I have been enamored with programming since the mid-80’s, not coincidentally, the same time that the movies TRON and War Games were released.
